Our Pledge: A Safe, Creative, and Fun Community

Welcome to the Digital Start Coding Club (part of Dasikaa®)!

This is a place where we create, explore, and learn together. To make sure our club is a safe, welcoming, and fun space for everyone, we have this Code of Conduct. It’s a set of promises we all make to each other.

By joining our club, all students, parents/carers, and staff agree to follow these guidelines to help keep our community friendly and creative.

Our Core Principles for Students

1. Be Kind and Respectful

Just like in a real-world classroom, we treat everyone with respect.

    • Be supportive: We celebrate each other’s work and help each other when we get stuck.
    • Listen to others: Everyone’s ideas are important. We listen politely when others are speaking, whether it’s an instructor or another student.
    • Respect differences: We are respectful of everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or ability. Bullying or unkind language will not be tolerated.

2. Stay Safe: Protect Your Personal Space

Your safety is our number one priority. To stay safe online, we all agree to keep our personal information private.

    • No personal details: Never share private information like your full name, address, phone number, school name, or links to personal social media profiles.
    • Use first names only: We will only use first names during our sessions.

3. Be a Great Communicator

We learn best when we communicate clearly and kindly.

    • Give helpful feedback: When commenting on someone’s project, always start with something you like. If you have a suggestion, phrase it kindly and constructively.
      • For example, instead of saying “That’s wrong,” try “Have you thought about trying this?”
    • Use kind wordsWe only use language that is friendly and appropriate for all ages. Swearing or mean comments are not allowed.

4. Build on Each Other’s Ideas

Coding is often a team sport! We are inspired by each other’s work and love to collaborate.

    • Adapt and expand: It’s great to get ideas from other people’s projects, building upon their code and designs to make your own unique creation.
    • Give creditIf you use someone else’s code, art, or ideas in your project, always say thank you by giving them credit.
    • Share your work: When you share a project in our club, you are giving others permission to learn from it and adapt it, just as you can with theirs.

5. Be Yourself and Be Honest

Be proud of who you are and the amazing things you create. It’s important to be honest in our club and not pretend to be someone else.

Our Virtual Classroom Rules

To ensure our online sessions are safe and productive, we have a few extra rules for our virtual space.

    • Platform security: We use Google Classroom and Google Meet for our sessions. Please only use the links we provide for you.
    • Cameras off for privacy: To protect the privacy of all our students and their homes, cameras are not expected to be switched on during our sessions.
    • Be in a shared space: For your safety, we ask that you join our sessions from a shared family space, like the living room or kitchen, rather than a bedroom.
    • No screenshots or recordingsTo protect everyone’s privacy, it is strictly forbidden for anyone other than the instructors to take screenshots, photos, or recordings of the sessions.
    • Use the chat and screen share responsiblyThe chat function is for asking questions and sharing helpful comments. Screen sharing will be controlled by the instructor to ensure everyone gets a chance to participate safely.

Our Expectations for Parents & Carers

We see you as our partners in creating a brilliant learning experience. We kindly ask for your support in:

    • Being ready to learn: Please help your child log in on time for the session, with their device charged and ready.
    • Providing a quiet spaceA quiet, shared space helps your child to focus and get the most out of the session.
    • Supporting the Code: Please review this Code of Conduct with your child so they understand our community promises.

What Happens if Someone Breaks the Rules?

Our instructors are trained to create a positive learning environment. However, if a student disrupts a session or breaks the Code of Conduct, we will follow this simple, fair process:

    1. A gentle reminder: The instructor will first give a verbal reminder of our rules.
    2. A quiet word: If the behaviour continues, the instructor will speak to the student privately to help them get back on track.
    3.  Involving Parents/Carers: If the behaviour persists and disrupts the learning of others, we will contact the student’s parents or carers to discuss the issue and agree on a positive way forward together.

Serious issues like bullying or sharing personal information will be addressed immediately with parents.

How to Get Help

If anything or anyone in the club makes you feel worried, unsafe, or uncomfortable, it is important that you tell an adult you trust straight away.

You can always speak to your instructors during a session. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Rukayat Johnson

A parent or carer can contact her at any time via our official club email: digital.start@dasikaa.com.
